Even as the victories piled up Chris Baker Authentic Jersey for the Philadelphia Eagles, there were reasons to have a few slivers of doubt. Or, at the very least, to wonder if they could maintain this level of play, a level that makes them the NFL’s best and most complete team.
Wonder no longer. The Eagles are very, very good. In an NFL season with a dearth of dominant teams, they might be closest thing that there is to one. They are the league’s No. 1 team and second-year quarterback Carson Wentz is the MVP by a whisker over his, shall we say, slightly more accomplished New England Patriots counterpart, Tom Brady.
We worked hard to be in this position and we earned it, wide receiver Torrey Smith said in the home locker room at Lincoln Financial Field after the Eagles upped their league-best record to 8-1 with Sunday’s 51-23 demolishing of the Denver Broncos. And it’s just that: We’re 8-1 right now. We still have a long way to go, a lot of work to put in and a lot of games to play. But we’re in a good spot right now.
We can’t take another step without mentioning Blake Bortles, the Jaguars passer who looked downright hideous throwing the ball in a white-knuckle 10-3 playoff win over the Bills last weekend — an ugly/beautiful game shipped to us from 1937.
He’s got a huge arm, a durable frame and perhaps an unwise amount of courage, but Newton hasn’t shown he can consistently fit passes into tight windows. Too many passes hit receivers’ feet or sail over their heads because Newton’s foot mechanics are inconsistent. And without improvement in that area, I fear the big guy can’t be great without the running game of his relative youth.
Limited Mens Boyd Gordon Jersey
Mens Aaron Jones Jersey After watching his film, I don’t think these limitations are about an ability to read the field. Newton mostly does a fine job knowing where to go with the ball. He sees and feels the blitz well, and doesn’t make an inordinate number of mistakes in the regular flow of his offense. And actually, it’s painting with too broad a brush to say: Cam Newton is inaccurate. Actually, when he puts loft on the ball, he can be extraordinary; he’s got excellent deep-ball touch. But on zipped throws, he’s wilder.
