Tom Brady-authorized Super Bowl 51 ring up for auction

A facsimile Super Bowl 51 championship ring, ordered with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s approval, goes up for auction starting at 12:01 a.m. ET Monday, ESPN.com reported.

The Brady-authorized ring — projected to fetch a six-digit bid in the auction that ends Feb. 17 — features 260 diamonds, 23 fewer than the ones Brady, other players and members of the Patriots organization received, and is roughly 10 percent smaller, Goldin estimated, but it does carry the same engraving. The facsimile ring is valued at $29,700 on gemstones and gold alone, he said.

One certified Super Bowl 51 player ring has been sold privately for $75,000, SCP Auctions founder David Kohler told ESPN, though he didn’t disclose the player’s identity.

The Bears announced the firing of the veteran head coach on Monday. Fox’s firing was first reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Thank you to all the players, coaches, the city of Chicago and Bears fans everywhere, your passion for the game and this team is unmatched in the NFL, Fox said in a statement released by the team. Today is the tough part of our results-oriented business but I wish the Bears organization the best for years to come.

The gloomy three-year stretch in Chicago dropped Fox’s career coaching record to 133-123. Fox had earned Super Bowl appearances in previous stops with the Panthers and Broncos. The Bears never sniffed even a .500 record under Fox.

Fox’s conservative coaching style consistently perturbed Windy City fans as the losses mounted. While Bears players rarely quit on the coach, Fox and his staff did little to lift the middling talents.patriots_143_4a7035a0a33d842f-180x180
