Spurs, Knicks, Heat, Timberwolves: Which is best fit for Kyrie Irving?

Kyrie Irving no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James in Cleveland, according to ESPN. The news came as a major surprise Friday evening, and left the NBA world shook. But now that we know he doesn’t want to play for the Cavs, we’re left to wonder where he will go.

We have a hint of where Irving would like to play. Adrian Wojnarowski reported Irving’s preference would be to play in San Antonio with Gregg Popovich. Woj’s ESPN colleague Chris Haynes said the same, but included some more teams of interest.

The Knicks? Irving wants to stop being LeBron’s teammate to play for the Knicks? Things in Cleveland must really be bad.

“I support Michael in everything he does,” Martellus Bennett said. “He’s very well-educated on what it is he wants to happen in the world and what he’s trying to communicate, and I think he does an awesome job. I love him to death, and I think he’s very courageous in the position he’s in and the things that he says, and I’m very proud to be his brother and to see him make the impact that he does — not just with stances like that but the work that he does in the community, the type of father that he is.

“If there’s anybody you can look up to, it’s Mike. I know sometimes he may come off a little abrasive, but man the dude is such a great guy. He’s always working in the community, he’s always trying to better the young and he’s a progressive thinker. I think it’s awesome.”

As Terry Bradshaw neared the end of his career, the Steelers drafted Malone with the No. 28 overall pick in 1980. Primarily their starter from 1984 through ’87, Malone did little to light it up. In his last season in Pittsburgh, he went 6-6 but threw six touchdowns to 19 interceptions for a 46.9 rating. Not too long after he hung it up, Malone embarked on a much stronger, longer gig as a popular sportscaster.dolphins_121

Here are the 10 must-see games of the 2017 NFL season.

Things were off from the beginning, tight end Greg Olsen told co-host Gil Brandt and me on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Every time we tried to correct it, it seemed like something else would pop.

Womens Byron Maxwell Jersey Added linebacker Thomas Davis: That’s all you heard about getting back to the Super Bowl, coming up short, how close we were to getting it done. … In our minds we felt like we had to hit the reset button and start over but I don’t think you can truly do that until you have a humbling season like we had last year.

Humbling is one way to describe a 6-10 record after going 15-1 in 2015.

Last year was a combination of things, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. Quite honestly, we didn’t handle last year very well, starting with me.

Such failure prompted Rivera to reflect upon the modus operandi from the previous three seasons (2013-15) when the Panthers reached the NFC playoffs.

We said, ‘OK, what did we do and what do we change and need to get back to?’ Rivera said. That was part of the process of evaluating.

A Christmas Day treat in Houston will have a pair of playoff hopefuls and two of the NFL’s stingiest defenses. The Texans have jettisoned Brock Osweiler and this could be an important game for both teams late in the season.

A playoff rematch that was dominated by the Falcons last season, the Seahawks will hope to get some revenge at home. The Legion of Boom may be losing some of its punch, but the Seahawks are a different team at home and there almost always seems to be some sort of controversy when Seattle gets a prime-time home game.

Red Sox collapse reminds AL that Yankees are far from done

That wasn’t how the Red Sox saw the opener of their three-game set going with the Yankees.

They blew a 3-0 lead in the eighth inning on a less-than-stellar performance from trade-deadline acquisition Addison Reed and walked away with an embarrasing 5-4 loss which put an end to their seven-game winning streak.

Charlotte, N.C. The metro area is about half the size of Phoenix’s and the Triple-A stadium in town, BB&T Ballpark, can’t be expanded. Unrelated: The county and city governments are resisting demands by people wanting to bring Major League Soccer to the city to pay for a $150 million stadium. Even if the corporate community decided it could make money on a baseball project, we’re talking about a facility that would be multiple times more expensive.

Las Vegas. Sin City extended itself to get the Raiders to come there. The D-backs might be disappointed if they’re intent on using other people’s money to conduct business. Plus, they’ll start life there as the No. 3 franchise (behind the Raiders and the NHL’s Golden Knights).

San Antonio. The Alamodome can’t fit a regulation field (as the dumb exhibitions played there have shown). Plus, the San Antonio option quietly disappeared after the Marlins used the market as a pawn in its own extortion plot (see: free Marlins Park).

The common thread in the flawed alternatives? Subpar markets and/or facilities. Chase Field is a desert oasis in comparison, random geyser eruptions notwithstanding.

Rockies/Diamondbacks 鈥?Living in the Dodgers’ shadow in the NL West, both the Rockies and Diamondbacks made nice moves this summer. Colorado added All-Star reliever Pat Neshek and catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Joe Maddon would ‘love’ more night games at Wrigley

Cubs manager Joe Maddon is ready for a change of scenery while looking out of the dugout at Wrigley Field.

Clint Dempsey Jersey I’d love more night games (at Wrigley). That’s why they put up lights, Maddon said, via the Chicago Tribune.

City regulations allow the Cubs just 43 night games, but they want to get up to the league average of 54. Maddon would like that too because it would afford his team more rest.

I usually shave it once a year or so, Holland told The Denver Post, during turns playing Golden Tee in the clubhouse at Progressive Field. The first couple days, it’s kind of different.

He maintained that the new look wasn’t a result of Yan Gomes’ walk-off homer Tuesday on the heels of allowing the Phillies two runs in their come-from-behind win Sunday in Denver.

They all stink when you lose, Holland said, especially when it’s your fault.

Rockies manager Bud Black isn’t worried and told The Post that he certainly won’t offer Holland any advice about focus.

He’s the guy who needs that the least. He’s as mentally tough as they come, Black said. We talked about some of his throwing mechanics. We saw something on video. But on the mental side? No way.

Black gave Holland the day off Wednesday after three appearances in four days — but only out of routine. And this time the Rockies rallied on the Indians, splitting a two-game set with the AL Central leaders and moving back ahead of the Diamondbacks for the lead in the NL wild-card race.

Mike Williams, Chargers’ 1st-round pick, may miss 2017 season due to herniated disk

In an effort to give Philip Rivers all the tools he needs to succeed as his career winds to a close, the Los Angeles Chargers selected game-changing wide receiver Mike Williams with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft. Unfortunately for all parties involved, the rookie may not get a chance to see the field this fall.

A week before his eventual release, Whitehead claimed his dog, Blitz, had been kidnapped and was being held for $20,000 ransom. The dog was later returned by rapper Boogotti Kasino who said he purchased the dog and just wanted his money back.

But the incident that resulted in Whitehead’s release was an arrest warrant issued on Monday. Earlier in July, Whitehead was accused of shoplifting in Virginia, even though his agent claimed there was proof the return specialist wasn’t even in the state.

“I just wanted some time to clear my name,” Whitehead told Wright. “I think I deserve that a little bit … It was just unfortunate how it all happened. I wish I got a chance to clear my name up.”

Police validated that claim Tuesday by dropping all charges and explaining that the man arrested had no identification, but provided Whitehead’s birth date and social security number. But that was one day after an arrest warrant was issued because Whitehead missed a court date and was subsequently released by the Cowboys.

At the end of it all, Whitehead was back where he started with a dog back in his possession and no legal troubles. But he was without a team before the Jets ended that.

Oilers fans succeed in hockey diplomacy

The U.S. and Canada aren’t best buds, politically speaking, right now. Both countries appear to be spoiling for a mini-trade war over, among other things, milk and lumber.

The people of Edmonton either aren’t privy to the whole affair, or they’ve chosen to ignore the rancor. If it’s the latter, then they deserve an even bigger stick tap for what they did Sunday evening.

We’ve already parked the game and we’re focusing on Game 6 in our building and we know the energy is going to be there. We know we’re going to play our best hockey and we’re going to come back with an even better performance.

After dropping the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh, the Predators tied the Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece with a pair of dominant victories in Nashville. Subban and the Preds defense frustrated Crosby, who fought back with some questionably aggressive tactics in Thursday’s 6-0 win. Crosby didn’t score in the game, but did have three assists to lift the Penguins to a 3-2 series lead.

You’ve got to give them credit, Subban said. They executed. We didn’t execute well enough to have success. We have to turn the page real quick and get ready for Game 6… We’ve got to focus on giving ourselves an opportunity to come back (to Pittsburgh) for Game 7.

I still feel we have a lot of great hockey left to be played here.

Considering Grubauer’s skill, age, success and that he was drafted by McPhee — then the Washington Capitals general manager — in 2010, it’s hard to imagine he will not be a Golden Knight next season, if not their No. 1 goalie.

You can’t stop Preds fans, you can only hope to contain them

The Predators are so popular in Nashville that even an outdoor viewing party is a tough ticket.

The city, expecting another massive crowd in downtown Nashville for Monday’s Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Penguins, will require wristbands for fans who want to watch the game on a big-screen TV on the plaza right outside Bridgestone Arena, the Tennessean reported.

So why is the Predators’ biggest star staying quiet?

Elite Kids Carl Lawson Jersey Whatever the reason, the media is not happy. When the team took to the ice for an optional skate Sunday afternoon, Subban was out there. Normally, that means the players practicing will talk to the media, which is in accordance to NHL media rules.

However, Subban entered the locker room fully dressed, then walked out. According to Yahoo Sports, he was heard asking Predators staff members if he should talk to the media. Apparently the answer was no, because the media was informed Subban won’t be talking.

The reasoning? Subban doesn’t talk on game days. That explanation is interesting, considering Subban normally talked to the press on game days during the regular season.

Now the Professional Hockey Writers Association is expected to file a report against the Predators for holding Subban out of media availability. Given how important Game 6 is for Nashville, it is surprising Subban isn’t talking.

James Harden gives game ball to 100-year-old Rockets fan

A woman sitting courtside got a surprise gift for her 100th birthday: the game ball from James Harden after a Rockets win.

After Harden dropped 38 points on the Bucks, he took the ball used in the game and delivered it to the woman. He then posed for photos with her, and gave her a memorable night.

In an interview with ESPN’s Doris Burke, Harden explained the special moment: Well today’s her 100th birthday, so it’s a blessing. You know she’s excited, she’s sitting on the court. She kept smiling over there. I had to go give her the game ball and tell her how blessed she is and I am for meeting her.

But this film is about Singh. His is the story of a boy from a small village who found basketball by chance, then grew into each opportunity presented to him, both physically and mentally. He is 7-2 now, and his height helped him get noticed. But producer Michael Ratner and director Roman Gackowski focused on more than measurements.

Satnam’s story is certainly his own, Ratner told Sporting News in an interview with him, Singh and Gackowski. Satnam, he gets it. And he got it as a 15-year-old. His family was, not dependent on him, but in his mind, he had to do it for his family, had to do it for his village, had to do it for his coaches in India and Ludhiana who taught him the sport, for all of India. He understands that there’s never been an India-born player in the NBA. He understands and carries that burden as his journey evolves and plays out.

The film does a good job exploring Singh’s roots. There are gripping scenes in his village, and the decision to pick up the story during Singh’s senior year at Florida’s IMG Academy, where Singh went as a 14-year-old as part of a program to develop India Basketball, allowed for some essential filming opportunities. We get to see Singh through the draft workout process, in the weight rooms, on the court and, most memorably, in a rare visit back to his village.
